Winter sports
Ah, Tignes! Its famous altitude lake so popular with stand up paddle lovers. Nearby, the no less famous Grande Motte glacier, allowing you to ski even in summer before taking a dip in the lake. Its 18-hole golf course (the highest in Europe) where some marmots sometimes frolic ... They don't bring the ball back, but as they are adorable, we forgive them!
We could go on like this for a long time, because Tignes is one of the largest multisport resorts in Savoie. It’s not for nothing that it was voted "sportiest city" in 2008 by the magazine L'Équipe! A major parasports city, it also hosted the 1992 Paralympic Games.
In all, it has 5 major "districts":
The village of Brevieres and its charming traditional chalets nestled at the foot of a large dam;
Tignes 1800, with its church reproducing that of the old drowned village;
Le Lavachet and its ski lifts for winter sports fans;
Tignes le Lac to tan, bathe and go shopping;
The Val Claret, the most festive district of the resort, with a dynamic nightlife. This is also where our holiday residence is located!
For nature lovers, head to the Vanoise National Park to admire ibex, marmots, chamois and sublime black grouse birds. You can also swim in the lagoon pool or cycle the 160 km of bike park trail by mountain bike. And there are many other activities to practice, such as archery, volleyball, basketball... Many of them are accessible to children! Also, don’t forget about water sports in summer (canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle).
