Nestled within the Westerwolde nature area of southeast Groningen, Parc Emslander offers a tranquil escape amidst picturesque woodlands, rolling wheat fields, charming villages, and historic walled towns. Located near the Drenthe region and at the foot of the Hondsrug, the park is ideally situated for a variety of activities. Water sports enthusiasts can explore the extensive network of open water via the Ruiten-A canal, enjoying the serenity of the waterways by motor launch, canoe, or rowboat.
Beyond the park's tranquil setting, a wealth of experiences awaits. Indulge in relaxation at the Fontana Nieuweschans spa, or explore the vibrant city of Groningen for shopping and cultural attractions. Winschoten, home to the Netherlands' longest shopping street, is also nearby. Families with children will find an abundance of entertainment options, including the Speelstad Orange indoor amusement park, Emmen Zoo, the Hunebedcentrum (a museum of Dutch monuments) in Borger, and the World of Wonder in Ter Apel.
A short trip across the border opens up a world of possibilities in Germany, with cities like Lingen, Oldenburg, Emden, and Bremen within easy reach. The charming harbor village of Greetsiel, known for its twin mills, is also a must-see. History buffs will appreciate the nearby 16th-century fortified village of Bourtange, meticulously restored in the 18th century. Each August, Bourtange comes alive with a captivating medieval reenactment, complete with jousting knights and period music.
